French Press for Preparing Loose Leaf Tea

We recommend using a french press to prepare your loose leaf tea, as it allows the herbs or tea leaves full contact with the water. When the plant material is not bunched up in a tea ball, you get a more potent tea. It also makes it really easy to strain the loose leaf tea when you are ready to enjoy it! We recommend having a french press dedicated to tea. If you share the same press with coffee, your tea may take on a bitter flavor from residual oils from the coffee.

This french press holds 8 cups, which makes two large mugs of tea (or coffee). We are working with our suppliers to get more of these in stock, as we love that they are made without any plastic (there is a silicone barrier under the lid to prevent the wood lid from warping) – which is very hard to find in a french press.

Directions: We recommend preparing herbal tea in a french press to get the most potent steep, similar to how coffee is brewed in a french press. Add the amount of herbal tea specified on package for 1-2 servings (this french press makes two servings of tea if filled to the top with water). Pour hot water into the press over the herbs. It is best to use hot water that is close to boiling, but hasn’t yet come to a rapid boil. Let the tea steep for at least 10 minutes. We recommend covering your steeping vessel (such as putting the top on your french press) while your tea is steeping to keep the tea hot and to limit volatile oils to be released in the steam. When your tea is done steeping (steeping time may vary based on your tea blend), push the plunger to the bottom position so you are able to pour your brewed tea into your mug while the herbs are being held back by the plunger.
